The Brown Family Award is made possible by a generous endowment to the TRS Foundation from George R. Brown, MD, FACR and Stephen L. Brown, MD, FACR. Drs. George and Stephen Brown are past presidents of the Texas Radiological Society and created this award in order to recognize resident excellence in radiation oncology and to encourage radiation oncologists to be involved in TRS. The TRS Foundation is pleased to offer this award to foster excellence among radiation oncology residents.
Graduating Residents (PGY5) will be eligible for the award, and the award will be given annually at the TRS Annual Meetings. The Brown Award Texas Resident Excellence Award, and will be based on the qualities of Academics, Leadership, and Community Involvement. Each radiology Program Director will nominate one candidate from their program that they feel best embodies all of these qualities. The online nomination form will be sent directly to all Texas radiology Program Directors. The nomination must include a letter of nomination from the Program Director, a personal statement from the resident, and the nominated resident’s CV.
A committee comprised of Dr. Brown, the chair of radiation oncology and the TRS Foundation Board of Directors will review the nominations, and choose three finalists. The finalists will be invited to participate in in-person interviews with the committee at the TRS Annual Meeting. The winner will be announced during the TRS Awards Dinner on Friday of the meeting. The three finalists must be in attendance at the dinner. Each finalist will be provided with two tickets to the Awards Banquet.
The winner of the Brown Award will receive a cash prize and commemorative gift. The amount of the cash prize is $3,000 for the first place winner and $1,000 each for two runner-ups. There are no requirements as to how the cash prize can be spent.
